
Kincraig set within the heart of the Scottish Highlands and situated within the Cairngorm national park, and surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes consisting of Lochs, Mountains, forest and rivers, One of these lochs and well known for its water sports activities is loch Insh a prime spot for sailing and canoeing among other water based pastimes. The Loch is a great day out that consists of a water sport centre and a great restaurant with gift shop, self catering accommodation is also located by the loch.
The River Spey
The River Spey also runs through this area offering great fishing or riverside pathways providing excellent low level walking, an abundance of wildlife roams the area and the near by Insh Marshes run by the RSPB, the marshes are a reserve and provide some great locations and hides are for bird watchers, Deer can also be found around the area and you will often see ospreys and Golden Eagles soaring above as well as other birds of prey, along the river banks you may also spot Otters and a variety water birds the whole area is a photographers dream especially those looking for wildlife photo opportunities, the landscapes are also outstanding giving views of the cairngorm mountains and heather clad moors. The monadhliath mountains Are also within view.
Local Communities
Close by are also little Highland communities like Feshiebridge, Alvie and Insh all located within stunning locations, Feshiebridge is a favourite of mine due to the lovely waterfall and forest location, a place I always stop at to view the roaring river where canoeist venture down the white water rapids. The whole area is dotted with lovely Cottage accommodations to rent and all within easy reach to Aviemore at only 9 miles away, Alvie is also blessed with a lovely Loch and a quaint church full of Local History, only a few miles away in the other direction is Kingussie and the ruins of Ruthven Barracks, also located near Kincraig is the Highland Wildlife park, with many animals to look at including wolves and Polar bear, the park provides an excellent day out especially if you have children.

The whole area offers so many things to do in winter or summer, the estates of Alvie, Rothiemurchus and Glenmore are only a short drive away and you will find many activities including Pony trekking, Clay Pigeon shooting, cycling and Fishing.
Kincraig and its surrounding villages are an ideal base for touring the Cairngorm National Park providing campsites, B&B’s and lovely hotels, you can eat in many great places including the Rowen Tree Hotel situated on the road to Aviemore, the hotel offers great food in a lovely environment. You will also find great places to eat and stay in the town of Aviemore famous as a great winter resort for skiers and mountain climbers, also very popular in the summer months as another great location to stay if you want things a little bit livelier.
The whole area is of outstanding beauty and surrounded by wonderful backdrops of stunning vistas, an absolute must if you want the ideal holiday within the cairngorms and the Spey valley.
