August 1, 2015 By Greg Murray Leave a Comment

Stirling castle

Many, like Edinburgh and Stirling were once home to kings while others like Inveraray or Drumlanrig are still home to ancient families. There are castles built to defend the territory of a clan and there are those such as Caerlaverock or Urquhart that were built to defend Scotland; from enemies … [Read more...] about Why Scotland’s Castles are Great Places to Visit

The Isle of Skye is a great place to visit - and with a car you can do a great loop around the island taking in all the amazing scenery and learning about its celtic heritage. Kyleakin, Isle of Skye The tour starts in Kyleakin at the southeastern corner of the island, which is accessed by coming over the Bridge from the Kyle of Lochalsh and Eilean Donan Castle beyond. Europes Last Private Army, The Atholl Highlanders

Atholl-Highlanders Marching

At the end of every May, Blair Castle in Highland Perthshire plays host to a truly unique event; when the regiment of the Atholl Highlanders parades and is reviewed by their colonel, the Duke of Atholl. This is no ordinary regiment however, as it has the distinction of being the only private regiment in Europe. Bedecked in kilts and plaid of the Murray of Atholl tartan and bearing Lee-Metford rifles, the officers, rank and pipe band gather in front of the 700 year old castle and take the salute from the duke. It is a simple gesture, but one that takes us back hundreds of years and a … [Read more...] about Europes Last Private Army, The Atholl Highlanders

Lost Valley Glencoe

Glen Affric One of the most beautiful glens in the whole of Scotland, this stunning and dramatic gorge tears its way west into Scotland's stunning scenery.
