With Muirfield Golf Club having hosted the British Open Golf Championship last month, the world has recently cast its eye over one of the most famous golf regions in the world. Muirfield however is just one of sixteen top class golf courses spread out over this 20 mile stretch of coastline. As sport continues to become ever more modernised with the latest technology in sports footwear and equipment, it is always nice to see certain cultures continuing to compete in truly traditional events. When one thinks of Scotland, it might be easy to get lost in the romance of its ancient lands, the mysterious moors that witnessed many a battle or were the idyllic settings for gothic novelists and fabled legends alike. But it is due to Scotland’s unique climate, loamy vegetation and gracefully rolling foothills that lent it to be the birthplace of golf.
