The mountains of the Highlands may still be snow-covered, and it doesn't entirely feel that spring has sprung; but with lambs in the fields and leaves returning to the trees, the colours of Scotland are changing again as the seasonal clogs turn once more through their eternal motion. Through the winter the only green is the rather geometric patchwork of conifer forestry peppering the countryside; and as April rolls into May it all starts to get lost in summer’s Kaleidoscope of colour. Midges In Scotland, How To Avoid Them

April 27, 2015 By Greg Murray 13 Comments

midges in scotland

Midges in Scotland are one of the first things many tourists mention when on holiday in Scotland. These little beasties can have many people waving their arms in the air or running for safety indoors. But what do we know about the Scottish Midge There are 35 species of midges in Scotland and not all of them bite, in fact only 5 species will actually bite you. The highland midge is the little culprit that gets many of us running around in circles and it will bite you to take blood to enable them to lay eggs and this is why it is actually only the female Midge that bites. Before moving to Inveraray in 1746, … [Read more...] about Awe-inspiring Loch Awe And The Hollow Mountain

Charles Edward Stuart better known as Bonnie Prince Charlie Landed in mainland Scotland in 1745 at Loch nan Uamh on the Western coast not to far from Glenfinnan where he was about to start his adventures as part of the Jacobite rebellion.
